In memory of its late pioneer Chairman, Chief Aret Adams, Niger Delta Exploration & Production Plc (NDEP) recently endowed Ikabigbo Grammar School in Auchi, Edo State with assorted sports equipment and essential textbooks for Junior and Secondary School students.
After continued liaison with the School Principal, Chief Umoru Ogakason, several areas of support were identified, the most immediate being the provision of sports equipment, which included footballs, volleyballs, badminton and table tennis equipment and also key textbooks for English and Mathematics for both primary and secondary School Students.
This endowment is the first activity undertaken as part of a long term partnership with the school, to the benefit of its students and other stakeholders within the community. Over the next year, the refurbishment of the School library and Science Laboratory will also be undertaken. The gifts were gratefully received by the Principal on behalf of the school and the students were urged to maintain their new materials with care.
‘Late Chief Aret Adams was not only a fantastic Pioneer Chairman, friend and mentor; he was also a keen champion of good works and self empowerment’ said Dr. ‘Layi Fatona, MD, NDEP Plc. ‘Rather than remembering him with a temporary measure, NDEP Plc is supporting a school in his village, Ikabigbo Grammar School, to promote education and learning as an enduring legacy to the residents of Ikabigbo. By continuing the work of Late Chief Aret Adams, we hope to inspire the next generation of Nigerian leaders.’
NDEP’s ongoing work with Ikabigbo Grammar School also supports the Company’s CSR efforts to promote capacity building, particularly in Rivers State, the location of its operations. This is done through the Host Community Development Trust and other ad hoc activities.
