The Past and Current Chairman of the NDEP Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Host Community Development and Environment Trust, joined by MD NDEP Plc, Dr. ‘Layi Fatona, visited the Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike at Government House, Port Harcourt on the 5th of December 2019.
The visit, which was a first for NDEP, gave an opportunity to showcase the work and profile of the Company and its subsidiaries, as well brief the Executive Government of Rivers State of the pioneering work of the Host Community Development and Environment Trust. Since First Oil in 2005, the Trust has been quietly implementing projects to the benefit of local residents.
The recent execution of a Global Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NDPR and 5 of its Port Harcourt based host communities was also discussed, given its testament to the Success of NDPR’s host community liaison efforts.
In his presentation, Dr, Fatona gave an overview of the operational activities of NDPR Ltd, the oil and gas fully owned subsidiary of NDEP, with particular focus on the upcoming Refinery Expansion Project Commissioning, together with the benefits for the local community and wider oil & gas industry.
Prof. Cookey, the Former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, as a historian, gave an overview of the Company’s humble beginnings, its operations and the many milestones that have since been achieved. The current BOT Chairman, Chief Chamberlin Oyibo presented the varied developmental projects that have been carried out so far within the host Communities, including infrastructure development, human capacity building and the provision of grants and educational bursaries.
His Majesty, King Dr Felix E Otuwarikpo Eze Igbu Upata II, commented that the Communities are working in harmony with the Company and that the area is peaceful, with no community related interruptions to operations.
The Governor, Nyesom Wike commented by thanking the company for arranging the visit, and that he was happy to hear the progress and achievements made so far by NDEP, and pledged that this Office will do everything possible to create an enabling environment for other companies operating in Rivers State.
Dr. Fatona, said ‘Port Harcourt is the operational base for NDPR Ltd and we have been working with our host communities in Port Harcourt since 2005, through the instrument of the Trust to foster a mutually beneficial relationship and a peaceful environment. To date, NDPR has celebrated 15 years of uninterrupted oil and gas production operations devoid of any host community disruption.’
