Niger Delta Petroleum Resources Ltd (NDPR) has been awarded the status of Corporate Citizen of Njaba – Obeakpu Autonomous Community in Imo State.
The unique status was conferred by the Eze of Njaba – HRH Laz Nwaozor, at the official launching and commissioning of the Njaba – Obeakpu Autonomous Community Water supply project in October 2016, sponsored by NDPR.
The completion of the water supply project was in fulfilment of a promise made to the Obeakpu Autonomous Community by NDPR, as part of its broader non-operating area targeted CSR programme.
The provision of potable water has made a tangible impact to the quality of life for local inhabitants. Prior to completion, the whole community had to rely on a distant, seasonal flowing brook, which was often polluted. Now that the water project has been completed and is in the custody of the community, the incidence of water bourne diseases have reduced and the general health, welfare and productivity of Obeakpu community residents has improved.
In a ceremony attended by Ezes from the neighboring communities, guests were treated to cultural dances and remarks from Ambassador Mrs. Juju Onwudiwe and Dr. ‘Layi Fatona (the Managing Director of NDPR).
Dr. Fatona commented, ‘We would like to thank Obeakpu Autonomous Community for their warm welcome. We are delighted that the completed project has made such a tangible impact to community residents.
‘The Borehole Project now completed becomes a promise fulfilled to the Obeakpu community and is the latest of a long line of Host Community Development projects successfully concluded by NDPR.
‘In an happy coincidence, the Commissioning Ceremony coincided with the 11th year anniversary of NDPR’s 1st injection of Crude Oil into Bonny Terminal. 11 years of uninterrupted production shows what is possible with local talent, resources and a lot of determination.’
The Launch of the Rural Water Projects was held on Saturday 29 October 2016.
