Niger Delta Exploration & Production Plc (NDEP) recently supported an exhibition, Ideas and Ideals, which ran from 26th November until 3rd December 2011, hosted within Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where the operations of Niger Delta Petroleum Resources Ltd (NDPR), NDEP’s fully owned subsidiary, are based.
Drawing from a childhood spent in Port Harcourt, artist Segun Adejumo presented an exhibition that helped to counter the prevailing connotations of the Niger Delta region, with paintings, drawings and mixed media pieces that focused on the richness of South South culture. The exhibition covered a range of subjects, but predominately included representations of local people, under such titles as Figure Narration, Hamattan Movements and City Market Rhapsody.
‘Ideas and Ideals showcased the vibrancy of Nigerian art and culture, using the Niger Delta region as a source of inspiration’, said Dr ‘Layi Fatona, MD NDEP Plc. ‘It’s great that the exhibition was held in Port Harcourt as it allowed residents to see how their State had been depicted, while also providing a welcome move from the often negative imagery associated with the region.’
‘NDEP, through its subsidiary, supported the Exhibition as part of its wider host community empowerment and development work, to develop human capital and to unlock the rich cultural talents of the Niger Delta region, where its operations are located.’
The Exhibition held at Nettetal Luxury, Azikiwe Road, Old G.R.A. Port Harcourt, Rivers State and ran until the 3rd December 2011.
